Ride hailing app, Uber, has released a statement identifing slain cab driver, Ehobosa Alex, as a registered driver to their network. The company however says the deceased wasn't using their app when he was booked by his suspected killers on Sunday April 9th...

Recall that two days ago, the Lagos state police command paraded two men, Osaro Egbomrewen and Michael Eyeoekpe, accused of killing the deceased and stealing his Kia vehicle with the intent to sell it off to an unsuspecting buyer. The suspects told newsmen that they went online to order for a taxi and the deceased came through to take them to Oke-Ira in Ogba but they made a detour to Oremeji street in Ogba where they strangled him to death and then dumped his body in front of a church. They were arrested in Benin city, Edo state where they were planning to sell his car.

In a statement released today, Uber says the deceased wasn't logged on to their network as at the time he was carrying his killers. The statement reads

"We are shocked and deeply saddened to learn of this tragic news. We are busy reaching out to offer our support to the driver’s family. Our thoughts and hearts go out to his family and we extend our sincerest condolences. This is a senseless act and the guilty parties must be prosecuted. We are relieved to hear the suspects have been arrested. We will support the authorities in any way possible to assist in their investigation. We can confirm that the driver was registered to use the Uber app, but he was not using the app during the time of the incident, therefore we have no reason to believe that this crime is related to Uber in any way"the statement read
