Yobe State police commissioner says Boko Haram has killed at least 235 officers in the state

The Commissioner of Police in Yobe State, Abdulmaliki Sumonu has said that no fewer than 235 officers of the command had been lost to the Boko Haram insurgency in the last six years.

He made the revelation at the investiture of an award on him by a non-governmental organisation, Actors Security Watch Organisation.

Sumonu said the award was in recognition of services rendered by living officers and officers who died in defence of the nation. “This award is not just for the commissioner of police, but the entire police command for serving the nation diligently,” he said.

The commissioner said that the award would serve as a tonic to the police to put in their best in the service of the country. He said that the command derived its inspiration from the higher police authorities. “This leadership gives every policeman a sense of belonging and fulfillment,” he said.
